Austin Hoover had 3 hits, including a double, and Adam Hoover added a run-scoring double. Curtis Moore and Cole Zeiler added singles and Matt Laughlin had 2 RBIs for the Blackhawks (12-7).
“Curtis Moore threw a gutsy game, going to distance in what turned out to a very close game. Clinton Central scrapped and clawed their way back from an early 8-0 hole, thanks in part to some weak defense on our behalf,’’ Sheridan coach Matt Britt said. “We were able to muster enough offense to stave them off. Tomorrow’s first pitch is 4:45 at Clinton Central.’’

The Royals, winners of four in a row, are now 13-8 going into a two-game HCC series with Noblesville May 8 and 10. The first encounter is at Southeastern.
The number of losses is somewhat deceiving as to just how well the Royals have played. They’ve lost six 1-run games.
Reigning sectional champion Westfield is 10-9, and loser of three straight games.
The senior right-hander walked 1 and struck out 2. Losing pitcher Wade Burtron went the distance. He allowed 5 hits and fanned 12.
The Hoosier Crossroads Conference game’s last lead went to HSE, thanks to a third-inning rally that saw two runs cross the plate on a groundout by Mitch Roman and a wild pitch. The Royals added another run in the fourth.
Alec Nelson did all he could do to give the Rocks a lift. He singled in the fifth and seventh innings. Brandon Gray had the only other hit for the Rocks.
Sean Green, Tre Grant, Justin Striebel, Brendan Burns and Chris Irwin had hits for the Royals. Striebel and Roman had RBIs.
“Kowal did a nice job of keeping us off balance, so he certainly deserves the credit. We have to get back to producing a higher percentage of quality at bats…we just have to keep working,” said Westfield coach Ryan Bunnell.
