. . . ROYALTY: Pint-Sized Pep Princess . . .

Blair Satterfield, 4 years old, is just one of the girls/HC Sports Daily photos: Steve Risley.
Blair Satterfield is only 4 years old, but she’s already helping lead cheers at the Hamilton Southeastern boys basketball games, where her dad, Brian Satterfield, is the Royals’ head coach.
Blair wears a Royal blue outfit just like the big girls. And she has her pom poms. And she has a ribbon in her ponytail. She’s just one of the girls.
Deb Satterfield said her daughter is constantly practicing cheers at home.
The IHSAA filming of the Royals after one of their basketball games — used to highlight the IHSAA events before and during televised and online Webcast events — showed up on UTube.
“The other day, Blair saw UTube and heard our school fight song,’’ said Deb Satterfield. “She’s just about learned all the words to it, too.
“She really enjoys being part of the cheer group on game nights, and the girls seem to enjoy having her on the floor with them.’’

Lightning Strikes Again In Sectional Draw
What are the odds?
Hamilton Southeastern draws North Central, which is new to the so-called Hamilton County Sectional this

year thanks to the two-year IHSAA realignment, in the first game of Sectional 8.
Just like Southeastern drew North Central in the first game of the girls sectional.
Both Southeastern teams had another thing in common . . . both were No. 1 at the time of the blind draw.
I mean, what are the odds of such a scenario?
I put that question to Jason Wille, the IHSAA sports information director.
“I have no idea what the odds are, but it’s pretty amazing to think about,’’ he said via an email.

North Central coach Doug Mitchell.
The Royals will take it step by step, with hopes they live to play again in the one-and-done tournament format. That’s something the HSE girls were unable to do . . . play again.
As most know, the HSE girls, unbeaten at 20-0, lost to North Central in the sectional opener at Carmel.
Now, it’s the boys turn to take center stage.
Talk about having a Bull’s-Eye on your back. Yeah, it does get bigger.
You’d probably have to go back a long way to find a bigger opening-game match-up, with so much at stake, in the 102 years of the Indiana high school boys basketball tournament.
Again, what are the odds of lightning again striking that box where the little white balls with team names pop up like popcorn, or bingo?
GAME ON! HSE, NC Meet In Sectional 8 Opener
The season will end early for one of the two highest ranked basketball teams in Class 4A, when Sectional 8 tips off at the Mill in Noblesville on Feb. 28.
Top-ranked Hamilton Southeastern (19-2) and No. 2 North Central (18-4) were matched up right off the bat in Sunday’s blind draw pairings.

Sectional Tournament Pairings on SCOREBOARD.
North Central, the preseason No. 1, has been perched at the top of the rankings twice this season, as has Southeastern. Both the Panthers and Royals arguably are the most experienced teams in the field.
Hamilton Southeastern, which has won 13 straight games and two of the past three sectionals, and North Central, which won state two years ago and lost to eventual state champion Bloomington South in last year’s Southport Semistate, will be meeting for the third time this season.
North Central defeated visiting HSE 81-76 on Dec. 17, and the Royals smacked the Panthers 89-80 in the championship game of the City Securities Hall of Fame Classic at New Castle 13 days later.
So Game On!
Hamilton Southeastern is the defending champion at Noblesville in what is the state’s toughest big-school sectional this season, and most seasons for that matter. It’s also a sectional that could not be more wide open.
Sectional Swimming: 20th Title In Row For HSE
With only a couple of events remaining and the outcome not in doubt, Hamilton Southeastern swimming coach Andy Pedersen was asked, “Does winning ever get old.’’

HSE coach Andy Pedersen (right) and high school principal Matt Kegley share a laugh toward the end of the boys sectional.
He leaned back, folded his arms and chuckled, “What do you think?’’ His Royals not only won the Southeastern Sectional boys swimming and diving championship, it marked the 20thconsecutive year for his team to hoist the trophy high in the air.

“I went through the other side of it last year when Fishers snapped our 15thstraight girls sectional champion winning streak. I like this feeling much, much better,’’ Pedersen said with a big smilie. Southeastern totaled 537 points to runner-up Fishers’ 381. At Noblesville, top-ranked Carmel won its fifth straight sectional. The Greyhounds compiled 514.5 points to runner-up Noblesville’s 391 and third-place Westfield’s 377.5 The Royals’ depth showed, but they also won all three relays, and got wins from Ricky Kelley (100 fly), Jackson Russell (200 IM) and sophomore Cody Coldron (diving). Fishers had two double winners in juniors Chris Cutter (500 free and 100 back) and Davis Arick (50 and 100 free).

No. 1 Hamilton SE, Pike Light Up Scoreboard! Harris-Irvin Electrifying, Combine For 76 Points

One for the books?/HC Sports Daily photos: Steve Risley.
Hamilton Southeastern beat North Central 89-80 to win the City Securities Hall of Fame Classic on Dec. 30. That was considered quite a shootout, right?
Yeah, but it was nothing like what Southeastern and host Pike combined for on Tuesday night.

Gary Harris slams threw two of his game-high 39 points.
The nets were dancing to the tune of 205 points. When the smoke cleared, it was Class 4A No. 1 HSE 107, No. 17 Pike 98.
Now, that’s a shootout!
HSE came into the contest averaging 71.1 points and allowing 57.4 points per game; Pike averaged 75.5 and 65.6.
Both teams shot often and shot well. They combined for 58 field goals and 94 shots. Pike fired away at a 66.7 clip, and HSE shot 56.5 percent, including 44.4 from 3-point distance (12-of-27).
The Royals (18-2), who won their 13th consecutive game, matched the school’s longest winning streak set in 2002-03 season, and they matched what is believed to be the most points for an HSE boys basketball team. The 2000-01 team defeated Broad Ripple 107-65.
But 205 combined points by two teams . . . A record? Well no . . . (249) Wabash (126) vs. Southwood (123) this season.
What was so amazing about the victory is that HSE, down 23 points in the first half, came from a 20-point deficit in the third quarter, outscored Pike 31-13 in the final 8 minutes, and put up 67 second-half points to 49 for the Red Devils (12-6).
And Gary Harris and Zak Irvin simply went bananas. They lit it up in an up-tempo game and scored 39 and 37 points, respectively. And Jacobby Bledsoe added 18 points for HSE.
