HSE’s Jess Stewart To Play At Indiana Wesleyan
Hamilton Southeastern senior Jessica Stewart has announced her intent to continue her basketball career at the collegiate level. Jessica will attend Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion. The Wildcats are an NAIA Division II program that competes in the Mid-Central Conference.
Jessica recovered from an ACL tear in December of 2010 and helped lead the Royals to a No. 1 ranking in 2011-12.
Stewart, who averaged 8.0 points and 2.9 rebounds and was named honorable mention in the Hoosier Crossroads Conference, is also a member of the HSE
student Athletic Council.
Carmel Volleyball Camp Dates Set
Coach Rich Coleman will hold his second annual Carmel volleyball camp on May 30-31.
It’s for incoming students in grades 8-9.
The camp is from 1:30-4:30 p.m. each day. Cost is $70.
The Carmel coaching staff, along with athletes and alumni, will be working all camps that will be held at the Carmel High School Fieldhouse.
All campers will receive a camp t-shirt. Incoming Freshman are HIGHLY encouraged to attend!

Delph Commits to Marian University
Jaidlin Delph, Sheridan’s career scoring leader in girls basketball with 1,194 points, has committed to play basketball at Marian University.
Several Noblesville High School student-athletes have announced plans to continue their careers at various colleges:
■ Golf: Brenna Obergfell has committed to Ball State University.
■ Baseball: Brock Hammond has committed to Wabash College; Nevin Fansher has committed to Rose-Hulman; and Sam Wides has committed to Parkland Junior College.
■ Swimming: Tommy VerBrugge has committed to Western Kentucky.

Gantt-Green Homers Help HSE Win 7th In Row

Red-hot Hamilton Southeastern continued its winning ways with an 8-5 victory over Crawfordsville on Friday night at Wabash College.

Leading 5-4 after four innings, the Royals scored 1 in the fifth and 2 in the sixth en route to posting their seventh straight victory and pushing their record to 16-8.

Three of the Royals’ hits were extra-base blows, led by home runs from Tre Gantt (2-run shot) and a solo homer by Sean Green (his second this week). Wes Edrington added an RBI double.
Joel Nabb and Mitch Roman had RBI singles, and Mitch Hansen and Brendan Burns each added RBIs.
Three HSE pitchers combined on a 5-hitter and were pretty effective when they found the plate, but they also combined for 9 walks.
Burns pitched 3 and 1/3 innings and got the win. He gave up 3 hits, and only 2 of the 4 runs scored against him were earned. He issued 5 walks and struck out 3. Evan Rice walked 3 in 1/3 of an inning, Taylor Hackett allowed 1 run on 2 hits, walked 1, fanned 5, and got the save.
Royals’ Winning Streak Reaches 6 Games

Suddenly, Hamilton Southeastern is the hottest team in the Hoosier Crossroads Conference.
Coach Scott Johnson’s Royals (15-8), who have put together a six-game winning streak, are 9-5 in the HCC, 3 games behind league-leader Zionsville, and 1 back of second-place Fishers and McCutcheon.

Southeastern saw host Noblesville tie it up at 1-all in the fourth, and then the Royals pushed across the winning run in the fifth for the hard-earned, 2-1 decision.
Three of HSE’s 5 hits were for extra bases. Mitch Roman tripled, and Wes Edrington and Sean Green doubled. Tre Gantt and Brendon Burns each singled, and Chris Irwin had an RBI.
Garrett Christman led Noblesville with 2 hits, and catcher Sam Wides doubled.
Andrew Wilson, Justin Holloway and Nick Vallier also singled for the Millers.
Senior right-hander Jacob Kowal went the distance, scattered 6 hits and struck out 4.
Ben Yoder pitched all 7 innings and took the loss. He struck out 7 Royals.
Sheridan Remains In Hunt For HHC Title

Sheridan kept alive hopes of a Hoosier Heartland Conference championship with a 12-9 victory over visiting Clinton Central.
Now the Blackhawks have to win at Clinton Central on Thursday to secure a share of the title.

Eric Price hit an inside-the-park home run to cap an 8-run first inning. He collected 3 RBIs. He also scored twice and stole 4 bases.
Austin Hoover had 3 hits, including a double, and Adam Hoover added a run-scoring double. Curtis Moore and Cole Zeiler added singles and Matt Laughlin had 2 RBIs for the Blackhawks (12-7).
“Curtis Moore threw a gutsy game, going to distance in what turned out to a very close game. Clinton Central scrapped and clawed their way back from an early 8-0 hole, thanks in part to some weak defense on our behalf,’’ Sheridan coach Matt Britt said. “We were able to muster enough offense to stave them off. Tomorrow’s first pitch is 4:45 at Clinton Central.’’

Crossroads Conference baseball showdown at Hamilton Southeastern on Tuesday.
The host Royals overcame a 2-1 deficit with 4 runs in the sixth inning for a 5-2 victory over Noblesville, extending their winning streak to five games. The Millers also came into the contest riding a four-game win streak.

They play again today at 6 p.m. at Noblesville.

Southeastern moved to 8-5 in the HCC and 14-8 overall, and Noblesville went to 6-7 in the conference and 8-15 overall.
Both trail 10-2 conference co-leaders Fishers and Zionsville, who meet today at 5:30 p.m. at Fishers.
Hamilton Southeastern junior southpaw Cody Christiansen and IU-bound Kent Williams hooked up in quite a pitcher’s duel for 5 and 1/3 innings.
Sean Green’s home run to right-center gave the Royals a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, and it stayed that way until Noblesville scored twice in the sixth only to see HSE plate 4 more runs in the bottom of the inning.
Noblesville had a chance to strike early, but leadoff hitter Sam Wides, doubled past the right-fielder in the first inning was stranded at third and the bases loaded.
Christiansen struck out two straight to get out of the jam.
Tigers Hang Tough For 11th Successive Win

The 4A No. 10 Fishers Tigers moved to 17-3 overall and 9-0 in the HCC with an 11-7 victory at Harrison, their 11th consecutive triumph on Wednesday.
The Tigers took a 10-1 lead into the bottom of the fifth, but starter Derek Ely ran out of gas and gave up 4 hits, including back-to-back home runs, with 2 outs.
When the dust settled, the score was 10-6. Harrison added another run in sixth, and had runners on second and third before Drew Clark came on and worked out of the jam with 2 huge strikeouts.

The Tigers added an insurance run in the seventh, and Clark worked a scoreless 7th for his 4th save of the season.
Ely pitched well in his first conference start and first varsity win,’’ coach Matthew Cherry said.
Ely worked 4 and 2/3 innings and scattered 3 hits while striking out 5 before Harrison’s rally. Ely allowed 7 hits total.
Offensively, the Tigers picked up where they left off last week by pounding out 18 hits. Parker Lasch hit a 2-run home run, and Jon Cordell added a solo homer.
Matt Woolwine went 4-for-4 with 2 doubles, 2 RBIs, 2 runs, and 2 stolen bases. Clark added 3 hits, including 2 doubles, and J.P. Pena added 3 hits and 3 RBIs.
The Tigers entertain Harrison at 5:30 p.m. today.
Streaking Tigers Move To 7-0 In HCC Baseball

The Fishers Tigers continued their winning ways in decisive fashion with a 13-3 victory over visiting Avon in five innings on Wednesday.
It was the ninth consecutive victory for coach Matthew Cherry’s hard-hitting Tigers.
The Tigers scored 13 runs on 12 hits in the first 3 innings. They added another hit in the 4th to finish with 13 total hits.

J.P. Pena was one of several sluggers for the Tigers finishing with 3 hits and 4 RBIs, including a 3-run home run.
Matt Woolwine added 3 hits and 2 RBIs, including a double and a 2-run home run. Blake Baumgartner had 2 singles and 2 RBIs, while Cameron VanderBerg and Jon Cordell each contributed doubles.
Justin Rhodes remained perfect on the mound, pitching his third complete game and upping his record to 4-0. Rhodes allowed 5 hits and 3 earned runs, while striking out 4.
The Tigers, now 15-3 and 7-0 in Hoosier Crossroads Conference play, travel to Avon for a 5:30 p.m. start on Thursday.
Sheridan Loses Lead, Suffers 1st HHC Loss
Carroll (Flora) scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to deal Sheridan a 10-9, the Blackhawks’ first setback in the Hoosier Heartland Conference on Tuesday.
The Blackhawks (7-5, 4-1 HHC) play host to Carroll in the second game of the series Tuesday at 5 p.m.

“It (the game) was certainly in our grasp,’’ coach Matt Britt said. “We were ahead 8-3 and weren’t able to seal the deal, giving up 7 runs in the 6th and 7th innings combined. We controlled the game for the majority of it, but Carroll stole the game away from us late.
“We had some costly mistakes, but as a coach I felt like we’d done enough good to overcome them. We were literally one strike away from winning, but a ball was called and Carroll capitalized.’’
Eric Price took the loss, giving up 2 runs on 2 hits in 1/3 of an inning. Curtis Moore scattered 5. Five of the 8 runs he allowed were earned. Moore struck out 4 and walked 5.
Adam Moore was 3-for-3 with 2 doubles, while Matt Laughlin also had a two-base hit.
Nate Pflugh and Price each punched out a pair of hits for the Blackhawks.
