Alternate Carmel Football Uniform for 2012
Just like the NFL, which recently unveiled new Nike uniforms for 32 teams, at least one Hamilton County high school has looked into an
alternate set of uniforms that that could provide a new look.
So, check out the new alternate 2012 Carmel football uniforms.
But whether or not you like what you are seeing, keep in mind that the base home uniforms will still be the traditional blue jerseys with gold pants.
“We have at times in the past worn blue on blue on occasion. On the road we have worn white on white and white on blue or gold,’’ said coach Kevin Wright, who led the Greyhounds to the Class 5A state football championship in 2011.
“No major shift; our athletic director (Jim Inskeep) has looked into an alternative set of uniforms that could be worn at home.’’
Wright said there’s no major change that he knows of, “just the ability to wear different combinations like we have done in the past.’’

Indy Alive With Sounds, Scenes Of Super Fun

Hamilton County Sports Daily photos: Mark Morrow.
Some thoughts and observations during a recent early-morning trip through Super Bowl wonderland in Downtown Indianapolis:
First of all, you don’t have to have a ticket to Super Bowl XLVI to enjoy what could be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for Indy.
There are many things to see and do while leading up to Sunday’s big moment at Lucas Oil Stadium.

This ice sculpture can be seen in a booth on Georgia Street.
And Indy is alive . . . day and night. Yep, really alive.
It’s a football paradise for Football Fanatics, and for people who just might like to sleep all day and party all night.
Georgia Street runs from Capitol Street to Banker’s Life Arena, home of the Pacers. Now the street itself is a destination. It may stay this way. Maybe it’ll become a version of Bourbon Street (New Orleans), or Beal Street (Memphis). Who knows?
The funniest thing I saw (maybe I should say saddest thing) was around 10 a.m., when an old-timer was sorta staggering and spilling contents from his cup with nearly every step.
Georgia Street is just a few steps around the corner from St. John’s Catholic Church. There was a sign in front of the church that read: Come In And Spend Some Time With Jesus.
I’m guessing that was not a religious calling for the old-timer I mentioned.
And . . . did I say he was already in Party Mode, and it was only 10 in the morning?
SUPER Invite: Fishers Football Players Should Feel At Home Returning To Lucas Oil Stadium
Members of the Fishers High School football team are headed for Lucas Oil Stadium where the school enjoyed its greatest championship moment, winning the Class 5A state football title in 2010.

"Obviously, we are excited to be part of the Super Bowl pregame broadcast.'' — Rick Wimmer.
And for many of the Tigers, it will be a return to the stadium floor turf and a chance to reflect on that championship while at the same time savoring a chance to be part of NBC’s pregame Super Bowl coverage.
The school was asked by NBC Sports to provide players to be used to present offensive plays and defensive adjustments of the two Super Bowl opponents in a walk-thru type demonstration.
Approximately 40-45 players will be used for this event.
“Players and coaches will meet with an NBC preparation team for (probably) three meetings and walk-thrus here at FHS during the week before the (Feb. 5 ) game,’’ said Tigers coach Rick Wimmer, who was honored with a plaque at halftime of the Hamilton Southeastern-Fishers boys basketball game Saturday night for being named the 2011 Coach of the Year for the State of Indiana by the National Federation of High Schools Coaches Association.
“Our players will execute specific plays by each participating team’s offense and show how the opposing team might be expected to respond.’’
The video shooting will take place at Lucas Oil Stadium late on Friday afternoon and early evening.
Fishers’ Coach Wimmer Honored By NFHS

Fishers High School varsity football coach Rick Wimmer has been awarded the 2011 Coach of the Year for the State of Indiana by the National Federation of High Schools Coaches Association.
The NFHS Coaches Association is the official national coaches association of the National Federation of High Schools (NFHS).
The NFHS recognizes coaches at the state, sectional, and national level, and notifies recipients of the highest level of award they can receive.
Wimmer, who led Fishers (14-1) to the school’s first Class 5A state football championship
in 2010, led the Tigers to the sectional championship game in 2011, finishing with an 8-4 record.
Wimmer, who is 45-25 in six seasons at Fishers and 209-108 overall, enters his 30th season of coaching tin 2012.
He also won the Class 3A state football championship at Zionsville in 1987.
Millers’ Pearce Among Top 50 Football Players
Noblesville High School senior Sam Pearce, who was selected as one of the Top 50 players in the state for football this fall by the Indiana Football Coaches’ Association, is also the Mr. Football

for tight ends.
The versatile Miller is now one of nine players in position to win Mr. Football for the entire state, said his coach, Lance Scheib.
(Each year, the coaches’ association votes on their top 50 players in the state. From that, they narrow it down by position for Mr. Football . . . from that they get it down to players to vote for the top award.)
“We are proud of what Sam has done on the field as well as what he has done for the program off of the field,’’ Scheib said.
The 6-foot-5, 230-pound Pearce, who also doubled as a defensive end for the Millers and is a solid blocker and tackler, was a first-team member at tight end on the 2011 Hamilton County Sports Daily Football Honor Team this season.
He will take his talents to the U.S. Air Force Academy next fall.
Class 5A State Football Champions Honored

Carmel rolled out the red carpet to the state champion Greyhounds on Friday night in the school gymnasium. Players and coaches were greeted by fans, and many of the players even signed autographs/HC Sports Daily photo: Shawn Barney.

This time, there was no need for a big comeback, like there had been two of the previous three weeks.
And this time, there was no chance of blowing a late lead in a state championship game, as Carmel had done in 2008 and 2009.
This time, the Greyhounds left nothing to chance.

An interception by Demarco Williams on the first play from scrimmage set the tone for the most lopsided victory in Class 5A state title game history. Carmel scored on 10 of its 11 possessions in rolling to a 54-0 victory over Penn for its seventh state championship.
“No chance of a heart attack today,” said senior quarterback Brandon Denning, who led the Greyhounds back from a 20-0 deficit against Warren Central in the sectional finals and a 17-0 deficit against Center Grove in the semistate. “We were able to jump out on them early. Our defense did a great job today.”

Senior quarterback Brandon Denning rushed for one touchdown and passed for another/HC Sports Daily photo: Shawn Barney.
The score might have been worse had Carmel (14-1) not settled for short field goals four times in the first half and thrown an interception in the end zone on another. Junior Billy Stumbo’s four field goals (37, 24, 30, 32) were a championship record for all classes.
“I felt very confident,” Stumbo said. “I just knew that we needed to get a blue ring.”
“We played great defense early and had great field position, and even though we didn’t score touchdowns, Billy Stumbo did a great job kicking field goals and then we were able to get some things untracked,” added second-year Carmel coach Kevin Wright, who won three state titles at Warren Central from 2003-05.
Denning completed 14-of-24 passes for 143 yards and a touchdown and ran 10 times for 60 yards and a score. Jalen Duncan carried 14 times for 110 yards, and Adam Kehoe caught a 5A title game-record 11 passes for 123 yards, a touchdown and a 2-point conversion.
“It was just a good day,” Kehoe said. “I’ve never really had that many targets, but in our system, it’s any guy, any day. It could have been any number of guys out there. I have to give credit to my quarterback and my line. They did a great job all game protecting, and Brandon did a great job throwing it, and I was just able to make some plays.”
