Heights’ Chapman Named All-American Athlete
Hamilton County Sports Daily
The National Strength and conditioning Association (NSCA) has awarded Hamilton Heights High School senior Sydney Chapman its annual All-American

Sydney Chapman has had to overcome several serious medical injuries conditions throughout her athletic career/Hamilton Heights submitted photo.
Strength and Conditioning Athlete of the Year award.
The award recognizes the student-athlete’s dedication to strength and conditioning.
The NSCA All-American Athlete of the Year award program is in its 33rd year.
This year, the NSCA awarded 225 collegiately and high school athletes from 90 schools with the esteemed award.
Chapman, who has signed to run track and cross country at Indiana State University, was selected for the award by strength coach Janet Clifton, MS, LAT, ATC, CSCS.
“Sydney has overcome several serious medical conditions throughout her career, including a hip injury that had left her unable to regularly train throughout June to October 2011 for cross country.’’
Chapman cross-trains like the fierce competitor she is, always trying to find another way to maintain or increase her strength and conditioning without further aggravating her hip.
Clifton said that Chapman can perform five pull-ups and has personal records of 11:09 for 2 mile, 5:20 for 1,600 meters (where she placed in the top 10) in the 2011 state track meet), an 18.46 for 5 km.
“Her strength index lifts may seem unimpressive at face value, but for an athlete struggling with body issues throughout her career, it is amazing that she has the bodyweight she currently has and the cumulative strength, which is continually improving,’’ Clifton said.
